For a town of less than one hundred thousand people, Missoula has a ton of places to drink beer. There are breweries, microbreweries, pubs, distilleries, wineries and tap houses. While there is a little something for everyone, this guide is dedicated to all the beer lovers out there.
So let’s crack a cold one and dive in.
The best Missoula breweries and tap houses
There’s a little bit of something for everyone in Missoula, but be warned: each brewery has a cap on how many beers they can serve you. Yep that’s right – you can only buy three beers per visit at any of the breweries.
This rule doesn’t apply to the local tap houses, like Gild and Dram Shop. These businesses do not have a serving limit, so drink away.
Missoula also has several great brewfests, so make sure you check out our Missoula Events Calendar before visiting the city.
Draughtworks
Draughtworks is one of the most loved local breweries. They are consistently voted the best brewery in Missoula and offer a rotating selection of delicious brews. They are located just outside of downtown Missoula with a medium amount of seating. The brewery is very popular with locals, so make sure you show up early or be prepared to wait it out.
Dram Shop
Dram Shop is one of the most popular tap houses in Missoula. They have two locations: one right downtown and one more centrally located. They offer a variety of rotating beers, wines and ciders for purchase in-house or to go.
Highlander Beer
Highlander Beer was originally founded in the early 1900’s before closing. The brewery was re-opened mid 2010’s and is now one of the most popular breweries for families. They are tucked out of the way on the opposite side of town from pretty much every attraction, but they are a destination in their own right. They have a great beer selection, delicious pizza and an amazing outdoor area.
Kettlehouse
If you’ve heard of Missoula, you’ve likely heard of Kettlehouse. Their most popular and widely known beer is the Coldsmoke. A delicious, dark beer that can be found throughout most of the Western United States. There’s multiple locations throughout town and they also have an amphitheater to the West of town.
But…which one is the best?
It’s impossible to name a favorite. Each brewery and tap house has a delicious selection of beer that will make any beer lover happy. Check one of them out and let us know in the comments if they were worth it!
